Old Turkeys and Original Art

I had planned to do a look back to Thanksgiving 1967 today, a half century ago, but I would be remiss if I did not help publicize a fundraising effort by the National Cartoonists Society to raise money for hurricane victims, not only because it's a good cause but because it's an opportunity for my readers to score some original cartoon art.

It's an interesting collection of contemporary and vintage originals and you should go have a look. As a sample, here's today's Zits as it appeared in the paper (computer colorized) and the original B&W artwork that's up for bid.

There's a whole lot more to see there, and, as said, it's a good cause. We'll check in a few days from now and see how it's going.

I've mentioned Berry's World a few times before, and newspapers got six cartoons a week but rarely used them all, since it generally ran on the editorial page. This one was set for Thanksgiving ...

... but a paper less willing to get into the political side chose to run this one on Turkey Day.

On the positive side, this is a joke. We wouldn't get to that point for several more years.
