Freedom of the Press relies on literacy
This December 15 picture shows children in Zinder, Niger, getting a ride home from the French Cultural Center and proudly displaying their new library cards and first borrowed books.
January 16, the Center was burned in the Charlie Hebdo riots, completely destroying the town’s only library.
Esther Garvi of the Eden Foundation will be in Paris shortly and says, “I will have a lot of room in my luggage so if you would like to make a donation to buy books for the children, I am setting up a small rotating library, where various age-appropriate books are passed from one household to another. It won’t replace the 15,000 books that burned down at the French Cultural Center, but it will keep them reading, which was the objective all along.”

Thanks.
