"Sheik" was a slang term for a good-looking guy with a lot of girlfriends, based on "The Sheik," a record-breaking 1921 silent movie starring Rudolph Valentino, who became one of the first superstars of the movies. When Valentino died in 1926, the streets were thronged with women trying to get in to his funeral.
Good Morning Mr. Peterson!
Some questions we have are:
Why was Raymond shot?
I wonder if Uncle Raymond shot himself because he found out Kenny was involved in the rumrunning.
Who shot Raymond?
Did someone from the party shoot Uncle Raymond?
Why was George leaning against the wall at the party the whole time?
See you in two weeks!
Great video of Rudy Valentino! Is that his real name?
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Well, the answer to some of your questions, as you can probably guess, is "Wait and see!"
As for why George was just standing quietly instead of making conversation with the men or getting excited when one of the men burned up all that money, go back to Chapter Six and see how he told Kenny to act at the party. Then I think you'll know.
And Rudolph Valentino was only part of his name. His real name was Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello Pierre Filibert Guglielmi di Valentina D'Antonguolla!
See you soon!

Is Theda a good or bad charater in the rest of the story?
Posted by: sfarney LACS | 03/16/2011 at 02:56 PM
Those are mostly "wait and see" questions, except for the last one, which is a "who knows?" kind of question.
I don't think Theda is a bad person, but she might be making some bad choices. Hanging out with guys like Eddie can be fun and exciting, but it isn't often very safe or smart.

Were alcohol dealers back then like drug dealers today?
Posted by: anyoung lacs | 03/28/2011 at 03:00 PM
Well, they sold something that was illegal to people who wanted to get high, and they sometimes beat up or even killed people who tried to stop them, and they used the money they made selling that illegal substance to do other illegal things.
So I guess I'd ask you, do you think they were like drug dealers today?
