There is an even darker side to the reporter ad. With all of those duties that require independent judgment (like editing videos that will go up on the web without little if any review), it is likely that position will be exempt for FLSA purposes and thus – there will be no overtime no matter how many hours the reporter works. What a perfect scenario. Give the position more duties so the employee has to work more hours … and it becomes exempt!

I saw an article the other day that postulates employers are not hiring employees not because they are reluctant because of the economy, etc. but because they are getting more work done with fewer employees who are afraid to lose their jobs … so … why hire?

I know that rant is a bit off topic … but I could not resist.

Not in the least off topic, though I'm not sure the suits are that clever, mostly because I don't think they've thought enough ahead to see the potential risks involved in letting the kids play with the equipment. In other words, I'm not sure they realize judgment (or, as that paper would have it, "judgement") is necessary.

Please have pity on an old man who just pushes a lawn mower for a living...the only typos I can find are "governement" and "judgement". Is that it or are there others?

What's so funny?
